Dimensions of clothing and deposit lockers – can furniture be made to measure?
Health and safety lockers are mandatory equipment for locker rooms in manufacturing and industrial plants. However, this does not mean that their uses end there. Today, closet and locker cabinets have an important function in offices and many other workplaces, as well as in sports facilities, cultural institutions or educational institutions. Thanks to our experience and knowledge, we know that each of the mentioned locations has distinct needs and conditions, so the dimensions of closet lockers are always determined together with the investor.

Dimensions of employee lockers
The standard model of the clothing locker has the following dimensions:
- 180 or 150 cm high (add 10 cm for the plinth or legs, or 40 cm for the bench),
- 30 or 40 cm wide,
- 49 cm deep.
In the case of workplaces where the employee is required to change his own clothes into work clothes, such as an apron or overalls, the above the dimensions of the closet locker correspond to those specified in the Polish standard PN-75M-78711 (1800 × 500 × 480 mm). Health and safety regulations also indicate, that the interior of closet locker should include a bar, shelves and a partition dividing the locker in half. Each employee should have only one double locker or two single lockers at his/her disposal, in order to be able to store all private belongings freely and to separate clean clothes from dirty ones.
The furniture from ALSANIT, which will be intended for the above-described workplaces, has legally sanctioned dimensions for closet cabinets. However, they do not have to be, as most furniture in business sanitary facilities, metal cabinets, which are unlikely to be visually attractive, and have average resistance to mechanical damage. As an alternative, you can use metal cabinets with doors made of HPL board, which is the strongest material, as well as the most aesthetically pleasing.
Dimensions of locker for office
When it comes to other workplaces than those indicated in the Ordinance of the Minister of Labor and Social Policy of September 26, 1997 on general regulations on occupational safety and health, the investor and contractor can afford to be more flexible. The dimensions of the employee lockers should then primarily meet the needs of their future owners, as well as the specifics of the facility where they will be located.
Deposit lockers for the office are often used to streamline correspondence and the flow of documents. They then have special openings through which it can be slid. If this is the main purpose of the furniture, the dimensions of the locker can be small, so that the structure does not clutter the office. However, many companies choose to provide their employees with more space so that they can not only store documents or a company laptop in a safe place, but also outerwear, footwear and other private belongings.
However, both options can be combined. The dimensions of the individual storage compartments in the employee lockers do not have to be uniform, as the furniture can be custom divided into larger and smaller lockers. This depends solely on the design guidelines, which can be modified.
Dimensions of the clothing locker in a small changing room
The space set aside for a school locker room, sports locker room or workplace sanitary room is often limited in size. However, this will not be an obstacle to the implementation of the project of sanitary cabinets made to size. The standard sizes given in the health and safety regulations are only one of many variants of the construction of this furniture, so they can be freely modified. In small locker rooms it is also worth giving up benches or chairs set in the middle, and instead choose closet cabinets with benches that are part of the whole structure.
The size of individual lockers can be modified with changing locker room conditions. This is made possible by modular metal furniture, which is an environmentally friendly and economical solution, since the product gains a longer life cycle. Thus, the dimensions of a steel employee locker do not determine the size of individual lockers, as they can always be adjusted to new expectations and needs.
Custom clothing locker dimensions
ALSANIT also offers work lockers that are tailored to the specific needs of their future owners. These include, among others. lockers for uniformed services, such as firefighters, which must not only be large enough, but also have the right number of compartments and shelves for all the uniform items worn on a rescue operation.
Larger lockers are also needed at ski resorts and ski rental shops. When designing this type of furniture, it is important to pay attention first of all to custom height, so that the lockers can accommodate not only skis, but also a snowboard. In addition, you need space for a helmet and boots.
Customized clothing lockers work well in any facility, as they allow optimal use of the available space, regardless of whether we are dealing with a large locker room or a small social room.
