Fireman’s cabinets – key features and parameters

A person on duty in the fire department has at least three types of uniforms and protective clothing, which he wears for actions or official outings. Barracks uniforms and combat clothing must have their own place. For this reason, firefighter lockers absolutely must have the right parameters and size to accommodate all of a firefighter's uniforms.

Firemen’s lockers for protective and exit clothing

The firefighting profession is the most socially respected of all emergency services. Those on duty in the fire department are the first to arrive at the scene of fire, flooding, accidents – wherever people, animals and property need to be rescued. In their work, they also deal with removing the effects of storms and other negative meteorological phenomena, clearing roads or also take part in water activities. Thus, it is wrong to think that firefighters only deal with firefighting, as they are present at all actions and accidents in which people, animals and property suffer.

Upon hearing the alarm calling for action, those on duty in the fire department have less than 30 seconds to dress in the proper protective gear, so it is essential that it be properly prepared for quick donning. For these reasons, fire stations must have dedicated and appropriate firefighters’ lockers from which firefighters can pull the proper attire as quickly as possible.

Thus, firefighters have a minimum of three types of outfits that they should have in their equipment (some of the special outfits are in the fire truck), while the protective outfit absolutely must be in the firefighter’s closet. Before going on an action, they must choose the right clothing for the incident and dress in it expressly, since time is extremely important in a firefighter’s work, as human life may depend on every second. Firemen’s lockers must be designed to facilitate pre-departure activities for all actions. For this reason clothing locker must have the right width and number of compartments that will seamlessly allow you to quickly change into protective gear. In addition, the locker in the fire department must not have doors, as in the rush of preparing to leave for an action, they could pose a danger to fire department personnel.

What kind of firefighter lockers do they need to be?

In the fire department, durable and functional equipment is essential, also clothing lockers should absolutely have such features. A firefighter must have lockers in which he places his protective gear, but also his daily clothes for work. Often in fire stations there are two locker rooms – for private belongings and those for action, so that the multitude of clothes does not interfere with rapid action.

Firemen’s lockers should be wide enough to easily accommodate protective and special outfits, and in addition, clothing lockers must be equipped with compartments for boots and helmets. Convenient protective helmet holders are often used.

When designing clothing cabinets, it is necessary to take into account the special needs arising from their purpose. Every element must be properly reinforced, even the clothes bar, as heavy protective clothing will be placed on it. All elements of the firefighter’s lockers should be thought out in such a way that the firefighter will have no problem getting dressed quickly and that the time will not exceed the limit of 30 seconds.

HPL or metal firefighter lockers

At Alsanit, we provide the designed and manufactured clothing lockers for firefighters with pan-European standards and the highest quality. We realize that these cabinets must be durable, which will resist moisture, mechanical damage and dirt. This social cabinets special tasks, which can be made of metal or HPL panels.

  • Metal lockers– High-quality steel plates are used in the manufacture of lockers, which are further strengthened against corrosion. They are equipped with the required amount of space needed for a firefighter to prepare for action. Lockers are placed on a pedestal to further strengthen them and make holes in them necessary for moisture drainage. Metal lockers are equipped with sturdy hooks for clothes and for the helmet and compartments for clothes. This type of metal lockers will work well in the fire station of the Volunteer Fire Brigade and the State Fire Service.
  • Cabinets made of HPL board – firefighter lockers made of HPL board are not at all weaker and less durable than metal ones – on the contrary. HPL board shows very high resistance to damage or adverse effects of moisture. All this is due to the method of production. HPL ( High Pressure Laminate) is made from cellulose fibers pressed under high pressure, which are soaked in resin. This produces boards with very high resistance, which can be successfully used to build firefighter’s lockers. Clothing lockers made of HPL boards are also aesthetically pleasing, as they can come in any color, and it is possible to print on them.

It is imperative that the services have safety and security clothing lockers for the firefighter’s specialized outfits, as well as for everyday clothes. The entire facility should be designed in such a way that there is no chaos in the locker room before leaving for an action. In addition, firefighters’ lockers must be of sufficient height and width so that using them will not be a problem for firefighters. At Alsanit, we know that firefighters serve the public, and every second is important. That’s why we offer customers the right design and space planning to make the firefighter’s locker room as functional as possible.
